No! Garden gnomes, in my opinion, are certainly not tacky but instead add a great deal of character to any garden or home. They have been around for hundreds of years and have a rich history to them that you can talk about with visitors to your yard. There are a wide range of classy gnomes that you can buy such as these large ones, these traditional Christmas gnomes and this cheap selection.
The thought that gnomes are tacky may have arisen as, over the years, there have been a great deal of variety in terms of their design and designers have based them around various films which traditionalists may not like as it veers from the original concept of them. Some of the more tacky ones that people who are fans of the classic look may not enjoy could be based around comedy, sport and zombies.
The fact that The Chelsea Flower Show let people use them in their designs again shows that there is a large part of the gardening community that adores them and how, when used correctly, can add a lot of traditional character to a garden and do not need to look cheesy.
Are They Bad Luck?
Quite the opposite! A lot of people consider them to be signs of good luck and place them in their yards because of this. They are thought to be protectors of people’s gardens and the items within them such as vegetables, minerals and gold.
Are They Friendly?
They are thought to be extremely friendly and that is why they often have a smile on their face as they are social creatures and one of their favorite things to do is sit around a fire or lake with their friends and family and spend quality time with them. They eat most of their meals as a group and find this one of the best ways to bond with each other.
