Why are gnomes eyes covered?

Gnomes with their eyes covered are the Scandinavian version of Santa called a Tomte / Nisse and are not often seen. It is considered that their eyes are scary to look at and so this is why they are covered.

Do you know about these little guys called Tomte? They’re famous in the world of Scandinavian folklore and they share a lot with traditional gnomes. These figures are typically found on people’s homes, farms or other places where there is life to protect!

A Tomten has a red hat, long white beard and their body shape is similar to a gnome and these things are why they are often mistaken for gnomes. They have been featured in some literature over the years such as Viktor Rydberg‘s pre-1900s poem called ‘Tomten‘ which is often read at Christmas time.

What is the meaning behind gnomes?

Gnomes are supposed to represent good luck and this is something that people want for their gardens and yards traditionally to protect things such as minerals and buried treasure and also to keep the various things that they have there, such as plants, trees and grass, healthy and vibrant.

They are thought to be magical creatures with powers that can protect your yard, and the items contained within it, from evil. It is also thought that they have the ability and motivation to reward people with happiness.

What do Gnomes do at Night?

Gnomes have a strong history of being the bringers of good luck and are also used to protect the items that are stored in the yard such a buried treasure, minerals and plants so part of what gnomes do at night relates to this.

Gnomes, like humans, are social creatures so they also spend time at night with each other chatting, telling stories and they have an active sense of humor so joke with each other when they can.

They Spend Some of Their Time Cooking and Eating

They also eat at night so spend some of their time gathering things to have for their meals and cooking. This is a team event where they all work together and it is a time for them to bond and tell stories. Some of the gnomes are better than others at cooking so will take the lead where others will do the cleaning afterwards.

What Powers do Gnomes Have?

Sometimes gnomes were said to have magical powers, like the ability to punish or reward people with happiness. They are also claimed by some as being involved in hidden processes of plant life; for example modern day horticulturists believe that special types of plants need certain kinds if fertilizer based on what they can do – whether its growing vines or producing fruit.

Some people believe that gnomes have magical powers to protect or punish those they see fit. Some say the best way to get on their good side is by rewarding them with happiness, like giving a gift of gold! A few tales tell about how these small beings guard secret underground treasures and offer favors in return for something given; some stories even suggest what this favor might be: whether it’s an object or person–it can depend on which story you hear first.
